Thoughts On Hiring Plumbing And HVAC Technicians In DC Metro

The plumbing, heating and air conditioning industry is competitive across he U.S. however, this seems more true  in the DC Metro market.  Good news for consumers, bad news for the Services Companies right?  Not entirely.  Our industry is competitive primarily for two reasons.  First, there is a low barrier to entry compared to most industries.  Second, the demand for these “need based” services are daily and in large volumes.  Hence competition.  Most competitors are out of business within a few years, leaving only the “strongest in service” to serve the DC Metro.  Business, regardless of industry is tough with daily distractions and the requirement for immediate decision making.  Only the companies with strong fundamentals with employees and systems to deliver survive.  So, what are some Fundamentals when looking for a reliable plumbing and hvac services company?  We could list so many items but to keep it simple the answer is really quite simple.  A company with a “C ode of Ethics” not only defined but embedded throughout the organization.  How do you know?  Couple of quick questions when interviewing service companies.  How long have you been in business? How many full time service technicians do you employ?  Do you have a website I can visit for additional information?  Are you insured?  These are just a few quick questions, each with their own intent on allowing you to evaluate the company.  How long in business shows reputation and sustainability.  How many employees shows what technicians in the field think about the company and how available the company will be able serve  (probably want this to be above 10).  Do you have a website allows for you the consumer to get a feel of professionalism before you commit.  If a company doesn’t have one or the one they have looks like a ransom note, you are not interested…..you will know when you see it, which is the point.  Are you insured is obvious but you would be surprised how few people even ask.  They just assume everyone is or at least says they are.  Just some “thoughts on hiring Plumbing and HVAC Technicians.”
